|
|
There's a video on the front page of the www.hollywoodivers.com site that supposedly came from Isla Guadalupe in 2005. I've been told the operator was Shark Diving International--website at
www.seesharks.com.
The SDI website claims "Our expedition crews are industry professionals with safety as our highest priority, for both our divers and our sharks. We have enjoyed a perfect safety record with no injuries to any diver or shark. Ever."
I'm following-up to see if I can get some more information on this incident. |

Please do follow this up Jeff, its important that people know whats really going on out there as opposed to brochure and car-salesman perspective and spin.
These boats too often exploit the sharks and sometime injure them; meanwhile for years Ive been personally attacked and 'sanctioned' by these people who have alot of money and few scruples.
I couldnt find the video clip you mentioned, keen to review it; please keep us posted.
The sharks at Guad and off Mexico are being targeted full speed these days by sport divers, sport and commercial fisherman etc; its a total shame and everyones staying mum as the 'cash in' goes down.

From Baja to Guad, white sharks are being targeted; accidentally captured and accidenally 'sold'. Where they arent being accidentally killed, they face habitat disruption and cage entanglements and associated hazards, let alone feeding; which violates one of the most basic of wildlife care tenents, as with bears or orcas- dont feed sharks.

Excellent work Jeff, you should post this news to shark-l, I tried but Ive been blocked from posting there, no reason given, thus far but the timing is perfect.
The cage dive industry is good at suppressing this kind of media, look how fast it got yanked after you found it: good job.

Dont feed sharks for sport, its 'stupid' and its not good for the animal involved.
Note the blood that began to pour out of the gills as the shark gets wedged into the port and cant get out, the footage jump cuts right then but one can still see the bloom of blood developing near the gills just as the vid stops.

Good to see your board back up Jeff. It had me wondering.
I posted the link to shark-l but the URL snagged on the shark-l SPAM filter, Jeff Kell fixed the matter and the post to shark-l has gone through and isnt blocked or fiilter snagged anymore.
Back to the Topic at hand,
I think its a shame that the animals are exposed to these hazards for sports.
